Advertising and Editorial Separation

Advertising helps sustain open access distribution of informational videos by funding hosting, captioning, and production. At the same time, protecting editorial independence is essential so viewers can trust content is produced for information and awareness, not commercial promotion. This post explains our ad screening, placement policies, and steps we take to ensure ads remain clearly labeled and do not influence editorial choices.

Team reviewing ad materials and editorial notes

Why Advertising, and What We Reject

We use advertising sparingly to support free access to informational content. We reject ads that promote illicit services, deceptive financial schemes, misleading investment opportunities, or any offer that requires payment to access essential informational materials. Ads that would undermine the informational purpose of our videos—such as promotions that misrepresent outcomes or pressure users into paid offers—are not accepted. Our screening aligns with major platform policies including Google Ads and Meta Ads and includes checks for truthfulness, required disclosures, and appropriate targeting. We avoid ad formats that mimic editorial content or obscure the difference between ads and our informational materials. Transparency and viewer safety guide these choices so advertising sustains reach without compromising trust or neutrality.

Ad Partner Review Process

All ad partners undergo a documented review process. We assess contextual relevance, platform policy compliance, and creative content. Partners provide information about targeting, landing pages, and legal compliance. Ads are evaluated for misleading claims and for whether landing pages contain clear disclosures and contact information. We also verify that partners do not require payment to access core informational videos. Contracts require partners to follow privacy and data-use restrictions consistent with our Privacy Policy. If an ad is flagged by our team or by community feedback, we initiate a swift review and may pause or remove the ad pending resolution. This process is logged internally to maintain accountability and to provide evidence of compliance if required by platforms or institutions reviewing our operations.

Clear Labelling and User Controls

We ensure that advertisements are clearly labeled and visually distinct from editorial content so viewers can instantly identify promotional material. Labels such as “Ad” or “Sponsored” are used alongside visual separation. We also provide users with simple cookie preference controls to accept or reject non-essential cookies used for advertising personalization. Rejecting non-essential cookies prevents personalized ad delivery and limits cross-site tracking. We inform viewers about why ads appear and how advertising supports open access distribution. Where platform-level ad personalization controls exist, we guide users on how to adjust settings to reduce personalized targeting. Empowering users with clear controls and explanations is central to maintaining trust while using advertising to fund free informational resources.

Handling Complaints and Community Feedback

We take complaints about ads seriously. Use the contact page to report an advertisement you believe violates our standards or platform policies. Provide the ad description, where you saw it, and any screenshots or links if possible. Our team will acknowledge receipt and begin a documented review to determine whether the ad should be paused or removed. We may escalate concerns to platform partners when necessary. Community reporting helps us detect issues more quickly than automated systems alone, and we publish corrections or actions taken when a complaint results in a policy or practical change. This responsiveness supports both compliance and the integrity of our informational content.
